Stray animals are a big problem in Casa. There are loads of stray dogs and cats and there is not a good system for controlling the population. During the summer, people do a pretty good job of looking after the animals by setting out food and water, but as of the 1st of September the summer crowds go away and the dogs and cats have less opportunities for food.
The dogs are not aggressive towards people, but they can be aggressive towards one another. When you are out walking they might start following you in hopes for food and then other dogs get upset and start going after the dogs in their territory. It all makes for a challenging situation.
We heard that some dogs were rounded up by the municipal services yesterday. Not sure what they plan to do with the dogs, but likely not a positive outcome for them. It would be helpful if they did something to neuter the animals, but I have been told this goes against some religious beliefs.
Tough situation....
