Mike and I ventured south by car to the capital city of Morocco, Rabat. It was refreshing driving into a Moroccan city free from potholes and green landscaped areas with plenty of trees, grass, and even parks. We also noticed how the streets were kept clean, there were fewer signs of trash and many of the buildings were intact. It’s no wonder since Rabat is home to the King and there are signs of money pouring into the city that are absent in Casablanca.
Mike and I stayed in a Riad in the Medina- a beautifully Moroccan-tiled guesthouse with a terrace to take in the aerial views, calls to prayer, and the sights and sounds of the city. We navigated our way around the medina fairly well until the last night, when we both got lost and couldn’t recall our footsteps as the narrow mazed walls all started to look the same- a true test of patience. While in Rabat, we explored the abandoned city of Chellah, dating back to the Romans 40 CE, the modern art museum, Hassan Tower, and the Kasbah. It was also a welcome treat to have French and Italian meals as Rabat attracts more foreigners.
Leaving our home on the water also makes us appreciate how much we enjoy our place. While a change in scenery is always a helpful recharge, our oceanfront property is hard to beat.
