getting a haircut and color in Morocco when you can’t communicate in Arabic or French. Somehow I thought I could have the stylist replicate my color and cut I last had in San Diego. Ha, think again.

Then again, I’m not in California. I was in Casablanca, Morocco! When I first sat down, I asked for the estimated time, she anticipated 3 hours. So I sent Mike off and they (yes, I had three women tousling my hair), got started.

4 hours later, I was still returning to the ceramic bowl for more rinsing, a final mask, and a plastic cap on my head. While what I thought would be a somewhat simple experience, I soon realized it was far from. A gooey brown substance was applied, followed by foils, rinsing, more foils, more rinsing. I thought if my hair wasn’t damaged before, this could be interesting.  I kept wondering if my hair would fall out. Ironically, the color treatment took just over four hours, followed by a 10-minute cut and blow dry.

Observing the stylists and customers, I soon noticed that nobody had highlights. Then again, highlights don’t seem to be a thing here in Morocco…. so what was I expecting? Chalking this one up to just another experience….hair grows, and I’m just grateful I still have some after all the treatments yesterday. Not sure I’ll have a repeat of that one, might wait it out until we return to the States in June. :-)
